Why Big Brother Produces Longer Lasting Couples Than Love Is Blind

Even though Big Brother is a reality TV show, it has a higher success rate for lasting relationships than Love Is Blind dating shows.

Shows on Big Brother have outlived actual dating shows, including Netflix's Love Is Blind. Even Big Brother couples who eventually broke up stayed together much longer than couples whose love was blind. While the two shows have different goals, one being about money and the other finding love, Big Brother has managed to achieve both goals over the years.

Both Big Brother's and Love Is Blind's relationships formed during similar time frames. Even Big Brother 20's Tyler Crispen and Angela Rummans, who ended their engagement, have enjoyed an impressive four years together. Chris “Swaggy C” Williams and Bayleigh Dayton of Big Brother 20 became engaged, married and expecting their first child in 2022 after only a few weeks of knowing each other. Christmas Abbott and Memphis Garrett, who met during the season of "Big Brother: All-Stars," have tied the knot ever since. These relationships are a far cry from love being blind turmoil. Iyanna McNeely, who married Jarrette Jones on LIB season 2, recently posted an emotional video about their divorce grief.

Big Brother Builds Trust

The eldest brother and his wife met in the game and learned about each other's strengths and malfunction. They also build trust, providing a solid foundation for a relationship. Love Is Blind is the exact opposite, as the cast are at their best at the start of the show, and their true colors come out after their engagement. This reversal explains several cringe-worthy moments, like season 3's Bartise Bowden blindfolding Nancy Rodriguez at their wedding.

Big Brother Strengthens Connections

The eldest brother couple who lasted the longest also tended to get nervous inside the house. In 2017, Cody Nickson and his eventual spouse, Jessica Nickson (neé Graf), had several violent altercations over the state of the game. Still, they ended up getting married, having kids, and even winning a season of The Drive. They were recently replaced by season 23's Derek Xiao and Claire Rehfuss, another pair of strong big brothers today.

In contrast, Nick Thompson and Danielle Ruhl in Love Is Blind Season 2 had a seemingly perfect connection in the pod. On a personal level, however, their relationship began to unravel. Nick and Danielle ended their relationship in divorce despite their stellar performance at their season reunion. They got divorced after about a year of marriage and their split was so messy They stopped talking.

The main difference is probably that each show has actors coming in with different intentions, so it feels more natural to have an accidental intimacy. The Big Brother players leaned on each other and made moves during the match, leading to some performances that won the entire match. Jordan Schroeder (born Lloyd) won season eleven, where she met her future husband, Jeff.

Netflix released Love is Blind season 3, and fans continue to question whether the season's only two married couples will last. Concerns have risen for Matt Bolton and Colleen Reed because they don't even live under the same roof. Meanwhile, Taylor Hale and Joseph Abdeen from the latest season of Big Brother just celebrated another month of dating, and they seem stronger than ever.
