Samsung Galaxy A14 5G comparison. Galaxy A13 5G: What's new?

The Galaxy A14 5G will succeed the Galaxy A13 5G as Samsung's new affordable 5G phone, but are there enough differences to warrant an upgrade?

Samsung announced the affordable Galaxy A14 5G at CES 2023, and it brings some upgrades compared to the Galaxy A13 5G. Launched in December 2021, the Galaxy A13 5G is Samsung's cheapest 5G smartphone yet. A few months later, Samsung also released a 4G version of the smartphone. However, the Galaxy A14 5G doesn't appear to be getting a 4G version like the previous generation.

The Galaxy A14 5G may look similar to the Galaxy A13 5G at first glance, but upon closer inspection, there are some design differences between the two devices. The new Galaxy A-series smartphones retain the waterdrop notch of their predecessors, but with thicker bezels. Samsung has also redesigned the back with a flat panel to better accentuate the prominent triple camera setup. The Galaxy A14 will be available in four colors — black, aqua, dark red, and silver — but only the black version will be available in the US. Just like the Galaxy A13 5G, it's not expected to come with a charger in the US. Box.

Galaxy A14 5G Has Better Specs & Is Cheaper Too

The Galaxy A14 5G has some notable upgrades that make it better than the previous generation. For starters, its 6.6-inch Not only is the display larger than the Galaxy A13 5G's 6.5-inch HD+ screen, but it's also sharper since it's an FHD+ (1080p) panel. What hasn't changed is the 90Hz refresh rate and the fact that the panel is LCD instead of AMOLED. Samsung also kept the processor the same, retaining the MediaTek Dimensity 700 processor with 4GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB of storage. There's a microSD card slot for up to 1TB of additional storage.

Like the Galaxy A13 5G, the Galaxy A14 5G has a 50MP primary rear camera (also seen on the cheaper Galaxy A04), a 2MP macro camera, and a 2MP depth camera. However, the newer model forgoes the 5MP front-facing camera in favor of a higher-resolution 13MP sensor. Both phones have a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, an audio jack, and a USB-C port for charging. The 5,000mAh battery capacity is also unchanged and charges at the same 15W speed. The Galaxy A14 5G does have Bluetooth 5.2, while the Galaxy A13 5G has Bluetooth 5.0. Samsung also launched a new phone with One UI Core 5.0 based on Android 13. ^This phone will Received two OS upgrades, which means it should be updated to Android 15. The Galaxy A13 5G was launched with Android 11 and has been upgraded to Android 13, which is expected to be its last OS upgrade. While it's still eligible for security updates, it won't be as long as the four years that the Galaxy A14 5G is planned for. The Galaxy A14 5G is priced at $200 in the US (4GB RAM + 64GB), which is $50 less than the $249 debut price of the similarly configured Galaxy A13 5G. With its minor feature improvements and cheaper price tag, the Samsung Galaxy A14 5G is shaping up to be a worthy successor, it's just that existing Galaxy A13 5G owners shouldn't be upgrading to it.
