Marvel teases return of pet Avengers
In Timeless #1, Marvel teases some future storylines for Earth's Mightiest Heroes, including the return of its funniest team yet: the Pet Avengers!

Marvel Comics has teased the return of one of its more unique teams: the Pet Avengers! In Timeless #1, Kang the Conqueror travels through time and space, and along the way readers get glimpses of future storylines set to unfold in the Marvel Universe in 2023. One of those fleeting sights confirms that the Pet Avengers will return for action.
Kang the Conqueror's mission: to learn the secret of the missing moment, a thing in the universe beyond his reach. Meanwhile, new rival Mirdin is hunting Kang. To defeat Kang, Myrdin builds an army of heroes based on King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Kang traveled through time and space to fight every champion of Myrddin. Every time Kang jumps, he sees visions in the time stream - one of which is the pet Avenger! This issue was written by Jed MacKay, with illustrations by Greg Land, Patch Zircher, Jay Leisten, and Salvador Larroca, coloring by Frank D’Armata, and wording by Ariana Maher.
The Pet Avengers Are Marvel's Most Fun And Underrated Heroes
The Avengers have had many different incarnations in the Marvel Universe, dating back to Earth's Stone Age - but none were wilder, or wilder Unique, than pet Avengers. The team consists of the animal companions of popular Marvel heroes including Lockheed (Katherine Pryde), Hairball (Speedball), Ms. Lion (Spider-Man), Redwing (Falcon) and Zabu (Ka-Zar). Led by Throg (the frog version of Thor) and the Inhumans' Lockjaw, the team first came together to stop Thanos from getting the Infinity Stone again. Since then, the group has had several adventures, but has recently been dormant; Throg has appeared in Thor for the past two years, and Lockheed has been accompanying Pryde in Marauders. Now, Marvel is gearing up for the epic return of the Pet Avengers!
Pet Avengers, at first, may seem like too silly a concept to really work - but it works, and it's beautiful. The original Pet Avengers stories were fun; they were the perfect, light-hearted antidote to the usually serious Avengers series. That's not to say pet Avengers are powerless. Each member has a power (or gimmick), and thanks to their combined power, they are able to defeat Thanos. Kang's vision of the pet Avengers in Timeless suggests they're on his radar - a force that's rarely overlooked. question IS: What brought the Pet Avengers back together? Is it possible for them to recruit new members such as Pizza Dog and Bats? Will they regroup to help thwart Kang and his attempts to discover the missing moment? Does this missing moment have anything to do with them? As with many of Kang's other visions, readers will learn the truth in 2023.
Marvel Needs the Pet Avengers More Than Ever
Whatever the reason, the Pet Avengers are coming back. The Marvel Universe is heading into uncertain times. Not only is Kang chasing the missing moments through the timestream, but several others pose serious threats -- including an enemy far more powerful than the Supreme Being. It remains to be seen what role the Pet Avengers will play in these events, but their return to Marvel Comics will be the most welcome.
