New Deadpool 3 fan art imagines Austin Butler as Gambit in a cool comic-style costume fighting alongside Wolverine, holding Deadpool's decapitated head.
A striking new Deadpool 3 fan art envisions Austin Butler alongside Wade Wilson and Wolverine as Gambit. Butler recently shot to fame with his lead role in "Elvis" and continues to play a major role in the upcoming "Dune" sequel. Hugh Jackman has already been confirmed to play Wolverine in three of the Ryan Reynolds-directed sequels, which will be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so speculation abounds about what Deadpool 3 will contain.
Reddit user subi-ozil's new Deadpool 3 fan art depicts Wolverine in a sleek comic book-style outfit, a treat never delivered during Jackman's campaign. Fan art incorporated an interesting callback to Fox's timeline when Wolverine's claws pierced Deadpool's decapitated head. Also important is Gambit, who hasn't been confirmed or even rumored to appear in Deadpool 3, but also stars in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, played by Taylor Kitsch, as well as Jackman and Reynolds. In theory he could play a role in the trilogy. Check it out below:
What Do We Know About Deadpool 3?
Not much is currently known about Deadpool 3's plot, though Jackman's recent comments about the Wolverine character refute theories that it will be a different version character, or he is rising from the dead. The latter element likely keeps Deadpool 3 from diminishing the tragic events of 2017's acclaimed Logan, the culmination of Wolverine's time in the Fox universe. With the MCU's Multiverse Saga well underway, many fans have speculated that Deadpool 3's Wolverine will be from another universe. Alternate iterations of the character have been shown on screen, with Phase 4's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness featuring an implied X-Men: Mutants version of the animated series Professor X. ^Jackman also confirms that Deadpool 3 will have time travel, which is presumably how the plot will fit into the Fox universe's Wolverine without resurrecting him, which would undercut Logan's excellent conclusion to the character. It's unclear if Wolverine has a future in the MCU beyond the trilogy, though fans would love to see him return for the climax of the multiverse saga in Avengers: Secret Wars, along with various other traditional Marvel characters, though So that was a long time ago. Whatever happens to Wolverine, Deadpool is confirmed to be joining the MCU pantheon his upcoming film.
Gambit was originally supposed to have an origin story featuring Channing Tatum as part of the Fox universe, but the proposed film was never able to move past the development stage. Although Tatum was set to star, a director could not be found and the project fell through. Fan art depicts Butler in the role, and his recent star power will be able to elevate the already stellar leadership duo of Jackman and Reynolds. Introducing Gambit in Deadpool 3 would be an excellent way to introduce the X-Men into the MCU, given that there have been plans for the character before, and given that mutants are starting to appear now, it's only a matter of time before most of the notorious mutants find their way Access to Earth-616.
